She did what??

Okay I picked this up on the News yesterday.

Scavenging OAP Crashes Georgia's Internet.

As a Techie I have to ask things like how?  Most systems have more than a single point of failure.  It looks like Georgia doesn't.  The other thing is why wasn't the cable a lot deeper underground?  Or are we talking about two guys who just ran the cable along the ground, like we used the cups and string method to talk as kids.

Really does she deserve any jail time? No, you should jail the company who put the cable in.

I'm wondering if to find the fault they just followed the cable till they found the woman trying to spool it up.

  1. How funny is it that one granny can bring down the internet in two countries. One would think that there would be more than one connection between the countries. Clearly the redundant cable pull was deleted from the infrastructure design :-)

I think they should thank her, not penalize her.

  2. You have to say that the system failed big style. One point of failure is certainly what they are dealing with.

Though you still have to laugh at it all and how easy it was to shut them down. The cable couldn't of been that deeply buried as it was very easy to be found and broken. No plastic tube shielding or anything. Madness, but as well great news.
